Spotting A N00b Blogger By Their Analytics

January 5th, 2010 by Admin Leave a reply »

Its happened again. Thanks to the link from The Firearm Blog, my traffic spiked.

Whats the takeaway? These guys have traffic that make mine look really small. There is more than a few of us that think these guys are great.

For those wondering about this data, because I am a giant nerd, I run Google Analytics, Click Tale, and check out my server logs. AwStats is a great parser which I also like. BTW, will someone please tell Tam to get off the old Urchin tag and onto the new GA tag?

    Urchin tag? Huhwhat?

And how would one go about this?

    • Admin says:

      - log into Google Analytics
      - Hit the “edit” link for your blogs site profile
      - You should now be looking at a “Profile Setting” page.
      - Click the “Check Status” link above the main box on that screen
      - Copy the code that it gives you.
      - In blogger find your existing ga code. You may have put it in a widget or you might have pasted it directly into the template (right below your Site Meter code, the “All is Vanity” widget?).
      - Paste the new code over the top of the old code.

If everything goes correctly you will not notice a difference. GA will just happily click along.

Now if you have tried to get fancy with your analytics by tracking outbound links or event tracking or something, Then there might be other minor changes. But if you are using it “out of the box”, you are good to go!
