One of the many things that has been keeping me busy is finding my wife a new car. As she does a ton of driving, after her previous car broke down, we basically had a week to find her a new one.
I have to say that overall the experience was not as bad as I was expecting. But one dealership stood out.
My wife is an accountant (auditor) and a large part of my job is buying media and dealing with sales people, so when we decide what we want, its best to not waste our time. We knew what we wanted so from there on out it was just finding the right deal.
So we went to a few dealership, spoke with a few sales manager and knew about what we were going to pay. So when we arrived at (dealer name removed) and they wanted us to sit in a small room with two no power chumps, I was annoyed. Then one of them insisted that I sign some hand written opening offer. I took my pen, crossed out just about everything out (not signing it) and then told him to take it to his manager. I also offered to speak with him directly to move this along. Well the paper, came back crumpled up into a ball. I noted that the ball was really small and maybe the manager had small hands, flicked the ball across the room and left the dealership.
I ended up buying from a dealership where I was speaking with the manager after about 10 min on the lot. And that guy did not try a mess around. He told me what he paid for the car (true or not it was in the right range, and I know that because I do my homework), what he wanted to make and we did business.
Moral of the story, piss me off and you loose a customer and I tell my friends about your d-bag ways, work with me (on my terms) and you might just get some money out of me.
