Amazing Workmanship, Drilling

November 30th, 2009

This weekend had a change to handle a Drilling. It was a double barrel shotgun over a 30-06. But that is not the part that is impressive. The gun is the work of a master craftsman. What stood out to my untrained eyes was that all the screws pointed in the same direction, down the length of the gun. Another subtle feature was the gun switch. When you clicked to rifle, a rear sight popped up.

I tend to be attracted to modern guns and equipment but I can tell you this gun was a thing of beauty.

I took a few blurly photos with my cell.

Some Car Dealerships Need To Grow Up.

November 30th, 2009

One of the many things that has been keeping me busy is finding my wife a new car. As she does a ton of driving, after her previous car broke down, we basically had a week to find her a new one.

I have to say that overall the experience was not as bad as I was expecting. But one dealership stood out.

My wife is an accountant (auditor) and a large part of my job is buying media and dealing with sales people, so when we decide what we want, its best to not waste our time. We knew what we wanted so from there on out it was just finding the right deal.

So we went to a few dealership, spoke with a few sales manager and knew about what we were going to pay. So when we arrived at (dealer name removed) and they wanted us to sit in a small room with two no power chumps, I was annoyed. Then one of them insisted that I sign some hand written opening offer. I took my pen, crossed out just about everything out (not signing it) and then told him to take it to his manager. I also offered to speak with him directly to move this along. Well the paper, came back crumpled up into a ball. I noted that the ball was really small and maybe the manager had small hands, flicked the ball across the room and left the dealership.

I ended up buying from a dealership where I was speaking with the manager after about 10 min on the lot. And that guy did not try a mess around. He told me what he paid for the car (true or not it was in the right range, and I know that because I do my homework), what he wanted to make and we did business.

Moral of the story, piss me off and you loose a customer and I tell my friends about your d-bag ways, work with me (on my terms) and you might just get some money out of me.

Not Dead Yet…

Tons of New Mountain Hardwear and Columbia Gear.

November 16th, 2009

For a gear geek there is probably nothing more thrilling (and financially dangerous) than being given a pass to an employee store such as Columbia.

As soon a I start putting this gear to use, I will post reviews.

For those who are confused Columbia Sportswear own Mountain Hardwear. IMHO some of the very best gear out there. Oh and Columbia is a Portland company with a fun history.

Cool New Stuff from Surefire

November 10th, 2009

M300A Mini Scout Light: looks like by Surefire E1L but brighter (110 Lumens), comes with a remote grip switch and mounts to a rail.

E2D LED Defender in now 200 lumens. :)

I wish Surefire would provide an upgrade path for product like the E1L to take advantage of the brighter E1D or M300A LEDs.

Your Doing It Wrong: Self-Defense

November 9th, 2009

Just a thought. Having spent time with guys who are crazy good at martial arts, it seems that they guy with the gun has already missed the point to having a gun… staying out of reach. Mostly because I don’t possess any martial arts skills, I doubt I would go for the bad guys gun.
